CHTA's COVID-19 Initiatives

CHTA is making every effort to advise our members on readiness, training, monitoring and information sharing, which commenced with a training webinar for over 400 industry stakeholders during the first week of February.

CHTA is part of an established COVID-19 Caribbean Tourism Task Force, comprising CHTA, CARPHA, CTO and the Global Tourism Resilience and Crisis Management Centre (GTRCMC) – to coordinate tourism industry’s readiness and response efforts. The Task Force’s mandate is to coordinate and share information, the compilation and dissemination of support tools, provide training, and to advance best practices by companies and destinations.    Efforts to date and pending initiatives can be found atCOVID-19 Efforts

o  Emerging Respiratory Viruses, including COVID-19: Methods for Detection, Prevention, Response and Control – a self-paced online training course provided by WHO
o  Free restaurant takeout and delivery COVID-19 food safety training and education videos provided by the National Restaurant Association Solutions and the American Hotel & Lodging Education Institute. Available in English and Spanish.
o Florida Atlantic University (FAU) Certificate In Hospitality and Tourism Management free online course.

Monitoring Systems for Hotels and Accommodation Providers
Established by CARPHA in collaboration with CHTA and CTO, the Tourism Health Information System (THiS) as a Monitoring, Surveillance, Confidential Resource for Hotels and Guest Houses, THiS is a real-time web-based application for facilities housing stay over arrivals such as hotels and guesthouses to monitor the health of their visitors and staff. The information serves as an early warning and response system for hotels/guest houses to monitor and rapidly respond to public health issues that may occur at their establishment. Monitoring System for Hotels

The Tourism and Health Information System (THiS), is a real-time web-based application for facilities housing stay over arrivals such as hotels and guesthouses to monitor the health of their visitors and staff. The information serves as an early warning and response system for hotels/guest houses to monitor and rapidly respond public health issues that may occur at their establishment. Guests/staff from participating hotels/guesthouses can report their symptoms to staff and complete a short online questionnaire. 

Hotel and tourism accommodation providers are:
o  Advised to be vigilant with sanitary precautions, monitoring of guest and employee illnesses, and prompt reporting to local health authorities any questionable illnesses.
o  Encouraged to register for CARPHA’s Tourism Health Information System (THiS).
o  All of the region’s hotels which are not part of CARPHA’s Tourism Health Information System (THiS) are encouraged to sign up. Since January, over 50 additional hotels have joined THiS. To register, visit http://this.carpha.org or https://tinyurl.com/txjo7al
o  Visitors are also encouraged to self-report at  http://this.carpha.org, and click on the self-reporting tab to the bottom left of the screen.
