CSHAE Leadership Conference

CSHAE convenes a conference approximately once every year to focus on the professional development of Association Executives (AE’s). The conference may address a variety of issues, generally the agenda is crafted to respond to timely concerns and challenges. A typical Leadership agenda may therefore include sessions on developing strategies for successful association programs, addressing budget challenges without compromising services, developing dedicated private sector leadership, effective government relations, improving member benefits and offering meaningful programs and educational training to association members.

Different formats have been adopted in different years for the Leadership Conference, sometimes a facilitator is selected, in other cases the AE’s tap in to their own expertise and resources and we will have specific AE’s leading sessions on subjects which may be their forte. In all cases AE’s engage in deep and detailed discussion on the subjects and challenges affecting them and exchange innovative ideas and best practices which their colleagues can use back home to improve their own operations.

The CHTA traditionally lends some level of support to AE attendance at Leadership and the format for this has varied over the years. As budget permits, CSHAE’s Board of Directors makes available scholarships to assist new Association Executives in attending the Leadership Conference.  Scholarships are also awarded as budget permits to assist first time attendees with attending the American Society of Association Executives leadership forums as well.

It is agreed that participants come away from Leadership re-energized, recommitted to working on the fundamentals which are essential to the success of their associations, and enriched with new ideas and approaches to meeting the needs of their associations and their members.
