CEO’s 2026 Mid-Year Message from CHTA

Dear Members,

It is hard to believe that we are already in August. The first half of the year has moved quickly, but it has also been a productive and meaningful period for CHTA and for our industry.

Across the region, we continue to see the strength, resilience, and creativity of Caribbean hospitality. Our industry is adapting to new traveler expectations, navigating ongoing challenges, embracing new tools and technologies, and working more collaboratively to protect and strengthen the sector we all serve.

As we move through the second half of the year, I wanted to take this opportunity to reflect on some of what we have been seeing and hearing, share a few of the themes shaping our work, and invite you to be part of the conversations and content we will be building in the weeks ahead.

In May, we successfully brought together industry leaders from across the region in Antigua and Barbuda for the 44th Caribbean Travel Marketplace, the newly reformatted Caribbean Travel Forum, and the Direct Booking Summit – Caribbean Edition.

June was equally active, with our team engaging with members across several destinations, participating in industry conferences, hosting webinars, and continuing important conversations with tourism leaders, partners, and stakeholders throughout the region. These engagements have given us valuable opportunities to listen, exchange ideas, and better understand the issues shaping our members’ businesses and our industry’s future.

One thing that has stood out over the past several months is how consistent many of these conversations have been. Whether speaking with hoteliers, destination leaders, technology partners, or industry experts, several key themes continue to emerge.

Today’s traveler continues to evolve. Guests are looking beyond accommodations and increasingly seeking authentic, personalized, and experience-driven travel that connects them with our people, culture, and communities.

Digital competitiveness has become business competitiveness. Being discoverable, easy to book, and visible online is now just as important as physical connectivity, making a strong digital presence an essential part of remaining competitive.

Technology, particularly artificial intelligence, is changing the way travelers research, plan, and book their trips. At the same time, it is creating practical opportunities for hospitality businesses to strengthen guest relationships, improve operational efficiency, enhance storytelling, and deliver more personalized experiences.

Across many of these discussions, there has also been a growing focus on creating greater value from every visitor. Success is increasingly being measured not only by arrivals, but by visitor engagement, profitability, repeat business, and the strength of the guest relationship.

Perhaps most importantly, while technology continues to evolve, one message has remained constant: the Caribbean’s greatest competitive advantage continues to be our people, our culture, our stories, and the authentic experiences that can only be found throughout our region.

These conversations continue to shape CHTA’s priorities and reinforce the importance of providing timely advocacy, practical resources, relevant education, and opportunities for members to learn from one another as our industry continues to evolve.

Through our Weekly Brief and ongoing member communications, we will continue sharing practical takeaways, emerging trends, and industry insights gathered from conferences, webinars, member engagements, and educational events. Members are encouraged to visit the CHTA 2026 Data Center for webinar presentations, research, industry reports, and other practical tools designed to support business planning and decision-making. Recent webinar recordings are also available on CHTA’s YouTube channel.

Just as importantly, we also want to hear from you.

Many of the best examples of Caribbean hospitality are already being led by our members. As we share more insights and resources, we invite members to share their own stories, examples, case studies, photos, videos, testimonials, and best practices with us.

Whether your business is using technology in new ways, enhancing the guest experience, investing in your team, deepening community connections, telling your destination story, or creating greater value for visitors, we would welcome the opportunity to learn more. These member insights can help inform upcoming features and inspire the wider CHTA member network.

CHIEF 2026 will build on many of these industry conversations, with the Early Bird deadline now extended to August 21. This year’s theme, Caribbean Tourism 2030: Resilient, Regenerative, Ready – Practical Strategies to Lead Smarter, Operate Better & Grow Stronger, reflects many of the conversations taking place across our industry today.

The sessions and discussions being developed for CHIEF will build on these themes and provide practical strategies to help members strengthen operations, leadership, and long-term competitiveness. If you have not yet registered, I encourage you to take advantage of the extended Early Bird rate while it remains available.

Thank you, as always, for your continued engagement and support. CHTA’s strength comes from the collective knowledge, experience, and commitment of our members across the region. I look forward to staying connected, hearing more from you, and continuing this important work together as we strengthen the Caribbean hospitality and tourism industry.

Please feel free to reach out to me or any member of the CHTA team if you have questions, need assistance accessing member resources, or have a story or example you would like to share.

With warm regards,
Vanessa
