On Thursday June 22, a ceremony was held at the Ministry of Tourism, where the Executive Council of Haiti Tourism Association (ATH) presented a symbolic check to the Minister of Tourism for the redevelopment of INFORHT (Tourism and Hospitality Training Institute) in Les Cayes.

The funds were raised last November by CHTA in an action of solidarity following the devastating effect of Hurricane Matthew to the south of the country.

ATH, the local tourism organization was entrusted with the funds and prioritized the re-establishment of the tourism trade school, which was severely affected by this hurricane. Indeed, Haiti suffers from a lack of qualified resources and the tourism sector is no exception. ATH believes that investing in education is one of the best way to support the industry’s development.

The funds will help reinforce the school’s existing infrastructure and provide operational training space enabling students to learn industry skills and develop their passion for hospitality.

CHTA’s partnership with ATH is longstanding especially in supporting education programs.

In fact following the 2010 earthquake the Caribbean organizations’ education foundation (CHTAEF) helped develop a scholarship program to Antigua for young hotel students.

ATH’s President Mrs Beatrice Nadal Mevs says she is grateful for the support of our Caribbean neighbors and hopes to consolidate ties with the region and CHTA on many other fronts.
