CHTA Joins the International Monetary Fund’s 2016 High Level Caribbean Forum

The International Monetary Fund’s 2016 High Level Caribbean Forum brought together Caribbean prime ministers, finance ministers and central bank governors, donors, and representatives from international financial institutions and the private sector to exchange views on the unique challenges and opportunities for the Caribbean region.

CHTA’s CEO, Frank Comito, was asked to participate in the panel session exploring the impact on the Caribbean tourism sector of ongoing US-Cuba approchement. The opening of Cuba to tourists from the United States is likely to result in both challenges – in the form of diversion of tourists away from other Caribbean island destinations to Cuba – and opportunities. The conversation was dynamic and brought to light topics CHTA had touched upon in its position paper “Cuba: The Great Disruption for the Good of the Caribbean”.
