Chef Kenneth Molyneaux, owner and Executive Chef of Tropical Fusion Beach Bar and Grill, and Captain of the BVI National Culinary Team proudly represented the Territory during his attendance at the Certified Angus Beef Chef Tour that was held in Amarillo Texas from April 17 – 19.
The attendance to this popular culinary event was part of Chef Molyneaux’s prize for winning gold and being overall winner in the Certified Angus Beef Competition that was held at the Taste of the Caribbean Competition in Miami last year.
The tour included meeting the family ranches, like 2Bar Angus owned by Steve and Laura Knoll. There ranchers gave an inside look on their journey since 1997 raising Angus cattle on their land in Hereford, Texas. The visit also conveyed the values and work ethic it takes to make a ranch, and a steak successful.
The chefs experienced the packing plant’s — A Beef’s Journey From Gate to Plate, and experienced the USDA grader evaluation for the Certified Angus Beef brand’s exacting standards. Also included were educational sessions, menu ideas, the daily care and diets, of cattle at a local, family-owned feed yard.
Chef Molyneaux, expressed what an exceptional and educational experience he had at the Certified Angus Beef Chef Tour; and thanked Certified Angus Beef organization, the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association and the BVI Chamber of Commerce and Hotel Association for the continued investment in Caribbean Chefs.
Since 1993 Taste of the Caribbean is the one Caribbean’s food and beverage premier culinary competition and showcase, held in Miami annually and produced by the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association. It showcases some of the best culinary talents in the Caribbean with competitions in Caribbean Culinary Team of the Year, Chef of the Year, Pastry Chef of the Year, Jr. Chef of the Year and Bartender of the Year. Other competitions include, Chocolate, Seafood, Vodka, Rum, Non Alcohol and Beef.
Taste of the Caribbean provides inspiration through seminars, workshops, tastings and demonstrations, created to develop performance, style and profitability in food and beverage operations. It’s a forum for gathering practical information, strengthening established supplier relationships and meeting new vendors, all on hand to help. These innovative and exciting educational sessions for food and beverage professionals, enhances the skills of the Caribbean culinarians. More than 500 delegates from 15 countries attend including the British Virgin Islands.
The BVI National Culinary Team has won Gold, Silver and Bronze medals in the past. In 2017 the BVI won gold in Chef of the Year and Beef, the BVI also won overall in those same competitions. Taste of the Caribbean will be held this year from June 22nd – 26th, team’s presenting organization is BVI Chamber of Commerce and Hotel Association.
